“In Sudan children, as young as 7, can be held criminally responsible. Children on the streets or ‘vagrant’ children can, even after the 2004 Child Law, be arrested not for committing an offence but for being a ‘vagrant’. Children may be sentenced to whipping or lashes. Children may be sentenced to lengthy prison sentences for certain crimes. The 2004 Child Law still allows for children to be sentenced to ‘not less than 6 years’.
